The first day of school for kids in Springfield is August 25th and we’ve partnered with Youth Connect Center to support at-risk students in our community; kids who may not have access to the basic supplies they need to start the school year prepared and confident. We’re inviting listeners to donate classroom essentials like backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils and more, all of which will directly benefit local youth served by Youth Connect Center. While the focus is on school supply donations, you can also donate anything that kids would need in their backpacks like hygiene products, chap stick, travel sized lotion, soap, socks, snacks, first aid kits, hair elastics, hand warmers, wet wipes, etc.

As an added incentive, every donation qualifies you to win VIP passes to Rocklahoma when you drop off items at the Q92.9 studio or Youth Connect Center. Just scan the QR code on the poster and you’ll be in to win!

ABOUT THE YOUTH CONNECT CENTER:
The Youth Connect Center is operated by FosterAdopt Connect that helps kids between the ages of 13-18 who are:

  • Experiencing homelessness or unstable housing
  • In foster care
  • At risk of entering foster care
  • Living in difficult family situations or
  • Simply needing a safe place and extra support after school

The goal is to remove barriers that keep kids from succeeding by meeting both their immediate and long-term needs. Services include:

  • Hot meals and a food pantry
  • Clothing
  • Laundry facilities
  • Showers and hygiene supplies
  • Case management
  • Connections to community resources
  • A safe, supervised place for teens to spend time after school
  • Access to mental health and other supportive services through community partners

Many of the teens they serve don’t just need notebooks and backpacks, they may also rely on the YouthConnect Center for meals, clean clothes, showers, mentoring, and someone to help them navigate school and life when things are difficult at home. Donated school supplies help remove one more obstacle so they can start the school year feeling prepared and confident.
