When I first heard that Bush had been added to this year’s Stagecoach lineup, I’ll admit I raised an eyebrow.

Stagecoach is known as one of the biggest country music festivals in the world, and this year’s lineup featured artists like Lainey Wilson, Cody Johnson, Brooks & Dunn, and plenty of country heavy hitters. Seeing Bush’s name mixed in with all of that definitely made me think, “This could be interesting.”

Then I remembered who we’re talking about.

Sometimes you’ve just got to let people cook.

From the second drummer Nik Hughes walked onto the stage and kicked things off with an energetic drum intro, you could tell this wasn’t going to be just another festival set. The band came out firing on all cylinders, delivering an electric performance that never let up until the final note of their classic hit, “Comedown.”

Gavin, Chris, Nik and Corey looked completely at home on that stage, feeding off the energy of a crowd that may not have come to the festival expecting to see a rock band steal the show. That’s one of my favorite things about festivals like this—you get to introduce your music to people who may have never seen you live or, in some cases, may have never even heard of you before.

Bush didn’t try to change who they were to fit the audience. They simply did what they’ve been doing for more than three decades: deliver a passionate, high-energy rock show.

That’s exactly why the performance worked so well.

It’s always refreshing to watch a veteran band embrace a new audience and remind everyone why they’ve remained relevant for so long. Rock music still has a place, no matter what festival it’s played at, and Bush proved that in a big way at Stagecoach.
