There are certain drivers in NASCAR that are just legendary, and Kyle Petty is absolutely one of them. I recently had the chance to catch up with the NASCAR legend and current analyst, and the conversation covered everything from his life in the broadcast booth to one of the most meaningful traditions in motorsports—the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America (KPCRAA).
And this year’s Ride is a big one.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the 2026 Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America runs May 1 through May 9, stretching from Sonoma to Charlotte. Along the way, it will make a highly anticipated overnight stop right here in Springfield on Tuesday, May 5, giving local fans an opportunity to connect with some of the sport’s most recognizable names.

A Ride That Means More
This isn’t just a scenic cross-country motorcycle ride—it’s a mission. The event raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a camp founded in honor of Kyle’s son, Adam. Over the years, the Ride has become a powerful blend of passion, purpose, and community.
Kyle shared what a typical day on the Ride looks like, and it’s equal parts focused and inspiring. Long miles on the road are paired with meaningful stops, fan interactions, and stories that remind everyone involved why they keep coming back year after year.
From the Driver’s Seat to the Broadcast Booth
We also talked about his transition into life as a NASCAR analyst, a role where Kyle’s personality and deep knowledge of the sport truly shine. He’s candid, insightful, and not afraid to say what others might be thinking—something fans have come to appreciate.
Of course, we couldn’t skip over his racing days, including his iconic partnership with Mello Yello. Kyle shared the story behind how that sponsorship came together—and let’s just say, his answer wasn’t what I expected, no really. I was shocked about what he shared.
NASCAR Then, Now, and What’s Next
We also dove into some current topics, including the potential return of Dodge to NASCAR—something that would certainly shake things up in the garage. Kyle offered his perspective on what that could mean for the sport and why moments like that keep NASCAR evolving.
Don’t Miss the Springfield Stop
If you’re a race fan, this is one date you’ll want circled on your calendar. The Ride’s stop in Springfield will include a free fan event at Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World on Tuesday, May 5.
Fans will have the chance to meet and get autographs from Kyle and several other NASCAR standouts, including:
- Matt Kenseth
- Kenny Schrader
- Clint Bowyer
…and more.
It’s a unique opportunity to see legends of the sport up close, hear their stories, and be part of something bigger than racing.

A Personal Note
Getting to talk with Kyle was a full-circle moment for me. He’s a driver I grew up watching, and now, seeing the impact he continues to make both in and out of the sport is pretty incredible.
