Bagpipes and Kilts: Get Ready for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

The pipes are calling! This morning on Q92.9, we caught up with Jayson Wilkins, President of the Southwest Missouri Pipes & Drums, to get the inside scoop on this weekend’s festivities.

Whether you’re there for the music or the Celtic tradition, here is everything you need to know for the big day:

The Big Event

Make sure you’re curbside this Saturday, March 14th, to catch the sights and sounds of the season.

  • What: The Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade

  • When: Saturday, March 14th @ 2:00 PM

  • Where: Downtown Springfield

  • Who to Watch For: Southwest Missouri Pipes & Drums and the Firefighters Local 152 Pipe & Drum Corps.

Beyond the Parade

Jayson shared that the band stays busy year-round, performing at various regional events and ceremonies. We also settled the age-old debate: What is the difference between a kilt and a skirt? (Hint: underwear is involved)

A Trip Down Memory Lane

This interview hit close to home for me—fun fact: I was actually an original member of the FF Local 152 Pipe & Drum Corps, better known as “The Black Sheep,” many years ago! While my piping days are behind me and I’ve traded the kilt for “common street clothes,” I’ll still be out there in the thick of it.

Catch us on the route! Look for the Southwest Missouri Pipes & Drums marching in formation, and keep an eye out for yours truly on the Q92.9 float!
