I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for new music from Rob Zombie ever since the announcement that two OGs from Hellbilly Deluxe and The Sinister Urge — Riggs and Blasko — were back in the lineup. For longtime fans, that reunion alone felt like a statement. Now, with The Great Satan arriving this Friday via Nuclear Blast Records, it’s clear this wasn’t just a nostalgic move — it was a creative reset.
And this record comes out swinging.
The album opens with the crushing “F.T.W. 84”, immediately setting a heavy, no-apologies tone. It’s aggressive, gritty, and unmistakably Zombie. Without missing a beat, “Tarantula” charges in to keep the momentum alive. From the jump, the energy is dialed all the way up.
It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since the last Zombie release, but this newest descent into controlled chaos proves the wait was worth it. There’s a renewed intensity here — a sense that the band is fully locked in and firing on all cylinders.
Standout Tracks
-
“(I’m a) Rock ‘N’ Roller” – As heard on Q92.9, and it absolutely rips. Swagger-heavy, loud, and built for rock radio without sacrificing edge.
-
“Black Cat Coffin” – Catchy and groovy with that signature spooky bounce Zombie delivers so effortlessly.
-
“Sir Lord Acid Wolfman” – A horror sea shanty that somehow works perfectly in the Zombie universe. It’s theatrical, unexpected, and one of the album’s most creative moments.
-
“Out of Sight” – Dark and driving, with layered samples woven seamlessly into the track. The production here stands out — the samples don’t overpower the music; they enhance it, creating a cinematic feel.
What’s most impressive is the consistency. I didn’t find myself skipping a single track — not once. Every song feels purposeful and contributes to the overall experience.
The Great Satan blends elements of Zombie’s more recent releases with flashes of The Sinister Urge and even Hellbilly Deluxe 2. It carries the polished punch of modern Zombie while tapping into the raw, sinister energy that longtime fans crave.
As a Rob Zombie fan, this album delivers exactly what I was hoping for — heavy riffs, infectious grooves, horror-soaked theatrics, and enough weirdness to keep it interesting from start to finish.
If you’ve been waiting for Zombie to drop something that feels both classic and refreshed, this is it.
