So… I just found out something that blew my horror-loving mind: there’s a lost version of Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. 🤯
I still remember the hype leading up to its release. I was glued to the internet (back when finding info meant trolling message boards and rock magazines) trying to get any scrap of news on Zombie’s directorial debut. After delay after delay, the movie finally hit theaters — and of course, it became an instant cult favorite.
But here’s the kicker: apparently there was a different script and even a cut of the film that we’ll never get to see. There was a character that was filmed but dropped from the final release. And the worst part? That original footage is gone. Either destroyed or buried deep in Universal’s archives, collecting dust where horror fans can’t get to it.
I was today years old when I learned this. WTF?!!
The video I came across dives deep into the backstory — the production issues, the countless delays, and everything that was changed (or lost) along the way. It’s fascinating and frustrating all at once because as fans, we’ll probably never get to watch this alternate vision with our own bloodshot eyeballs.
Still, it’s wild to think about what could have been. House of 1000 Corpses is already legendary, but knowing there’s a darker, lost version out there makes me love the film even more.
Would you want to see the original cut if it ever surfaced, even if it was rough or incomplete?
